Jim Peron
Jim Peron is the executive director of the Institute for Liberal Values and former owner of Aristotle’s Books in Auckland, New Zealand. He is the editor of the book The Liberal Tide: From Tyranny to Liberty and the author of the forthcoming book The Road Not Taken: Resolving the Crisis on the Roads. He was editor of Esteem, a gay monthly publication in South Africa, for three years. Has written for the Oakland Tribune, Hartford Courant, Wall Street Journal (Europe), Johannesburg Star, New Zealand Herald and other newspapers, and was a finalist for the Bastiat prize in journalism. He is author of Exploding Population Myths; Hating Speech; Die, the Beloved Country?; Zimbabwe: Death of a Dream; Apartheid, Affirmative Action and Capitalism; and The Day Ayn Rand Died.
He lived and worked in South Africa for more than a decade, working with the Free Market Foundation, the Friedrich Nauman Foundation, the Helen Susman Foundation and the Institute of Race Relations. He was formerly a board member of the Freedom of Express Institute in South Africa.
He left South Africa with his partner of eight years following multiple armed attacks. Unable to return to the U.S. because his partner is not considered a spouse, they’ve settled in New Zealand where their relationship is recognized for immigration purposes.
