Deirdre McCloskey

Deirdre McCloskey teaches economics, history, English, and communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she is UIC Distinguished Professor. She also teaches at Erasmus University of Rotterdam. From 1980 to 1999 she taught history and economics at the University of Iowa, and from 1968 to 1980 economics at the University of Chicago.

Prof. McCloskey is the author of books and articles on economic history, economic theory, writing, feminism, law, and ethics, 20 books written or edited and 300 scholarly articles. Her book Crossing: A Memoir recounts her gender crossing and was named by The New York Times in 1999 as a Notable Book. Her 1985 book The Rhetoric of Economics is widely considered a classic in its field and is now in its second edition, having been published in a variety of languages.
